MEMBERSHIP OF OUR CLUB
A highly prized strength and virtue of Shin Gi Ruh is the diversity of its membership. We have approximately 200 young members between the ages of 5 and 16 years old; and some 150 adults between 17 and 50 plus years. It is especially pleasing that we have a very good gender balance at the club with many female members in all age categories.
We take huge pride in our cosmopolitan membership, demonstrating how our sport can bridge difference and build understanding, respect and friendships between people from different backgrounds. This ethnic diversity includes members as White British, South Asian heritage, African, Egyptian, Moroccan and Eastern European (Polish and Lithuanian).
It is true that most of our members are from Blackburn with Darwen Borough. But we also attract some members from further afield in the region, including Chorley, Preston and Bolton. We have a good representation of both girls and boys as school children. Occupationally, our membership includes college students, graduates, business professionals, skilled trades people, police officers and teachers, to name but a few.
We have a very inclusive approach as an organisation and have a range of partner bodies and agencies that we work regularly with. In a sporting context we have an official accredited relationship with our governing bodies. These are the International World Muay Thai Council, based in Thailand; and our national governing body, the UK Muay Thai Federation.
On the immediate local scene we regularly work together with: local schools (both junior and secondary), many different community groups, Blackburn with Darwen Council, Youth Offending Team, Blackburn Rovers FC, Inter-Madrassah Organisation, Lifeline, the Fire Service, Lancashire Police, Primary Care Trust, the local Healthy Living Team and many different youth groups.
